Constipation of the mind

At first procrastination and constipation may seem quite different and strange to discuss. But today I am asking you to take a closer look. Procrastination is the art of delaying action when the opportunity is there to do so. Before starting my business I suffered from this in my studies at University and I must say I really cheated myself. Instead of planning out what study I would do for the whole semester, I would do this in lots, then I would miss a few items of study, then I would need to add in extra hours, and in the end I was staying up till 3am to finish an assignment due in the morning.

Once I had started my business the layout was made in a similar fashion. I planned out week by week and wrote down tasks and action I needed to take each day. The strange thing was, I completed everything… and added in tasks along the way! This was a rewarding feeling I must say, but the main difference between my studies and my business was that I enjoyed doing my business. When studying it was if I had to force myself out of bed to get behind a text book, and now I am bursting at the seems with excitement throughout my day running my business.

When thinking about constipation, it is a blockage of the body systems. And what do we think procrastination is? To me the best way to put it is constipation of the mind… A blockage between oneself and the outcome residing in the mind! In my case, I did not enjoy my studies, lacked motivation, and did not take it upon myself to change this. Other blockages that come to mind common in society are belief in oneself, worthiness, belief in the universe providing it and like me, people simply don’t enjoy what they do, yet continue to do it anyway! So next time you find yourself on the couch, making excuses to not do something, stop, and ask yourself ‘Why am I avoiding this really?’ because constipation of the mind is the worst kind and might be the one thing you need to overcome to have the life of your dreams.

  1. Hi Liana, thanks for being willing to discuss what many would not discuss!
I know that constipation is simply holding onto the past, and just as you described, it is a blockage! Louise Hay in her book "Heal Your Body" has this to say about constipation - Cause- Refusing to release old ideas. Stuck in the past, Some Stinginess. and then goes on to give the affirmation to release it.. "As I release the past, the new and fresh and vital enter. I allow life to flow through me" For sure procrastination is connected to constipation.. as procrastinating also is holding on to the past and not willing to go get the future. Very well stated and important information that many may not be willing to look at. Best, Lisa

  2. Hi Liana. I hope that you had a great weekend! In the gap between oneself and the outcome residing in the mind, the blockage is the conversations, the pictures and the feelings about every aspect of the unfulfilled desire and so much more, everything you have ever done that can relate to the circumstance will stand with the current thoughts and apply the pressure. Looking at it will empower it and rejecting it will only strengthen it for tomorrow. Only a greater fear will overcome it! I breathe deliberately and I move slowly if I am languishing, never to the task at hand but to the wisdom that leads me. I rest and remember what it is that is mine and only forgotten, nothing to overcome because it wasn’t really there and I laugh that for a moment, I forgot this was my mind again!

  3. Great post Liana. I also love Lisa's quotes from Louise Hay's book, as I'm a big fan of Louise Hay also. Being stuck is not a good place to be, and when we procrastinate it is certainly worth looking for the root causes and eliminating them.

  4. Lisa that is so true! Louise Hay is an amazing inspiration and it makes sense that it would mean to be holding onto the old and not accepting the new.
Andy your words are so powerful, and your right, its very easy to get caught up in the midst of things, but part of being an entrepreneur is refocusing and letting go.
    Thank you both for sharing!

  6. Liana great post! Just think of the physical feelings of this circumstance - feel closed off, want to be alone, in pain, unreceptive and feel bad. Whereas when we make the conscious effort to ask why or take action to move us forward towards our goals and passions we feel good, open, pain free, energized and want to surround ourselves with as many like minded people as possible. Thanks for sharing this.

  8. Hi Liana, it is so true that when we feel the blockage or stuck in some stage of business or with situation prior to starting new event. As you shared for us, we have to kick us off the comfortable zone! I have a word I alway repeat in my head when I'm stuck from, it's from my mother..."Go forward each day even if just 5mm!!" Her words still pushed my back quite good and I never step on the same spot everyday, I am progressing!

  9. Hi Liana, What a great post and a great analogy! I have never looked at procrastination in quite that way before, but as a healer I know that mental and emotional problems are reflected in the physical body. Thank you for reminding me.
